Academic interests

Focused on minimally invasive surgical techniques and surgical skills for the treatment of complex type A aortic dissection with extension to supra-aortic vessels, he realized countless surgical procedures concerning:

  • Minimally invasive aortic and mitral valve surgery (mini-sternotomy; mini-thoracotomy).
  • Myocardial revascularisation.
  • Aortic aneurysms and dissection.

He obtained the Master II degree after 2 years of collaboration with the FORCARDIOLAB (Biomechanics Group of “Politecnico di Milano”, Milan) and particular competence in realising aortic valve sparing techniques and understanding related biomechanics fundamental.

Aiming to imrove the management of aortic wall pathology and the comprehension of the impact of hemodynamic and biomechanics on the aortic wall and aortic valve leaflets behaviour, he started to be interest on computational fluid dynamics and aortic simulations.

He was promoter and first investigator of EVRRAA study (“in-vivo EValuation of growth and Risk of Rupture of dilated Ascending Aorta”).

In September 2024, he obtained his PhD at Ecole des Mines of Saint Etienne with a work on hemodynamics and biomechanics of ascending thoracic aorta aneurysms (title: “Contribution to hemodynamic and biomechanics evaluations of ascending thoracic aorta aneurysms”), aiming to improve our understanding on aortic wall pathology and risk of rupture.

In the future, he plans to explore biomarkers and mechanisms of vascular wall aging in order to improve the evaluation of durability of mammary artery and vein saphenous patency after coronary artery bypass grafting.

Teaching

He obtained the University Degree in Medical Pedagogy in July 2023, Faculty of Medicine of Saint Etienne.

Today, he is charged of:

  • Annual theoretical course of cardiac surgery for the second-year students of Medicine at Jacques Lisfranc University of Saint Etienne.
  • Annual theoretical course on the aortic wall pathology and aortic dissection for the fourth-year students of Medicine at Jacques Lisfranc University of Saint Etienne.
  • Training of young surgeons in cardiovascular surgery techniques (SimLife project) at the University Hospital of Saint Etienne.

He is charged of the annual course of cardio-thoracic surgery for the third-year students of Physiotherapy Academy of Saint Etienne and soon for the Nursing School also.
