SAINBIOSE INSERM U1059Our Research Unit

SAINBIOSE is major research center in translational and basic biomedical research endorsed by Inserm (U1059), the Jean Monnet University of Saint-Etienne and the Mines Saint-Etienne School of Engineering. It was founded in 2016, stemming from the pionner initiative of Saint-Etienne universities in the years 2000’s to bring together Engineering and Health Sciences together within a University Hospital campus (current campus santé where SAINBIOSE is located).

SAINBIOSE gathers together 8 research groups (150 staff) organized in 2 teams: the DVH team working on hemostasis and vascular dysfunctions, and the LBTO team working on osteoarticular physiopathology and engineering.

The common goal shared by all SAINBIOSE is to develop multiscale models (in silico and in vitro) for better understanding and adressing the interactions between inflammation and mechanobiology in cardiovascular and osteoarticular diseases. To achieve this, SAINBIOSE develops a scientific strategy based on a unique combination of scientific expertise spanning molecular and cellular biology, biomechanics and biomaterials, pharmacology and clinical translation. This approach generates both fundamental and translational advances applied to the global challenge of improving health and well-being for ALL.

Our strength lies in the integration of engineering, biology, and clinical research to confront cardiovascular and osteoarticular disorders. This synergy is achieved through our unique multidisciplinary team, comprising four esteemed institutions : Inserm, the Faculty of Medicine at Jean-Monnet University, Mines Saint-Étienne, and the University Hospital, all co-located on a single campus. This collaborative environment fosters unparalleled interactions among engineers, biologists, and physicians, all dedicated to advancing healthcare. By developing digital twins and precision medicine techniques, we are at the forefront of personalizing treatment strategies, enhancing patient care through innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration.

The SAINBIOSE approach is unique in the world, combining researchers in engineering, biology and clinical research in a true symbiosis. This cutting-edge research focuses on two areas to tackle cardiovascular and osteoarticular disorders. Our wealth comes from this collaborative environment rich in interaction between engineers, biologists and doctors to improve healthcare. By developing our knowledge of diseases, we feed digital twin models enabling precision medicine with personalised treatment strategies.
