Analysing the Presence and Impact of Microplastics in the Petrochemical Environment

Given the pervasive nature of microplastic contamination, understanding its sources, pathways, and consequences is critical for both environmental sustainability and human health.

The primary objective of this study is to identify and quantify the prevalence of microplastics originating from petrochemical processes. This involves investigating key sources, assessing their distribution in air, and water samples and evaluating their potential interactions with human cell lines. By employing advanced analytical techniques, the study aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of how microplastics are produced and contributing to environmental prevalence from activities in petrochemical refineries.

Teaching

I have extensive teaching experience across multiple educational levels, including primary, secondary, and higher education. In the UK, I have worked as a Cover Supervisor and Teaching Assistant in colleges, supporting students in GCSE English and Maths, facilitating lessons, and ensuring effective classroom management. Additionally, I have experience working in SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) schools, where I provide tailored support to students with diverse learning needs, fostering an inclusive and structured environment.

At the University of Hull, I served as a Teaching Assistant/Demonstrator, assisting undergraduate students in biomedical science laboratory sessions, guiding practical experiments, and reinforcing theoretical concepts. This role refined my ability to simplify complex scientific topics, provide constructive feedback, and encourage critical thinking.

My teaching approach is rooted in interactive learning, differentiated instruction, and student-centered methodologies, ensuring that each learner is engaged and supported. With expertise in curriculum development, research mentoring, and academic support, I am well-equipped to contribute to a university setting, fostering both intellectual growth and academic excellence.

Background

I have a diverse professional background spanning education, research, and content development. With a BSc in Microbiology (First class honours), MSc in Disaster Management and Environmental Impact at IMT Mines Ales (Distinction), and an MRes in Biomedical Science (result in view), and a PGDE in Education (Nigeria), I have cultivated expertise in both scientific inquiry and pedagogy. My experience includes working as a Teaching Assistant and Demonstrator at the University of Hull, where I supported undergraduate students in biomedical science laboratory sessions and academic discussions.

Beyond higher education, I have worked as a Cover Supervisor and Teaching Assistant in UK colleges, assisting in GCSE English and Maths, as well as supporting students in SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) schools. Additionally, I have experience as a freelance educator and content creator, developing engaging educational materials tailored to diverse learners.

With a strong foundation in scientific research, literacy advocacy, and instructional design, I am committed to fostering critical thinking, academic excellence, and meaningful learning experiences across various educational settings.
